TranAir - Low Cost Digital Dispatch

TranWare is the only fully featured Limousine Dispatch system available in North America with integrated two-way digital dispatch and GPS tracking over standard, off-the-shelf, low cost wireless devices! TranAir leverages the latest available technology to bring digital dispatch and vehicle tracking within reach of even the smallest transportation companies.

Unlike text messaging or email, TranAir is fast and reliable due to the use of true two-way high-speed packet data technology. Using TranAir is simple and very straight forward. Simply purchase off-the-shelf compatible phones for your fleet, (most are under $100.00) activate a packet data plan on each phone, then load the TranAir java application onto each phone.

TranAir works in conjunction with the WinLimo Dispatch system, so that trips booked in WinLimo can be dispatched directly to your drivers, without the need for voice communications. Basically, TranAir provides the functionality of an expensive MDT (Mobile Data Terminal) at a much lower cost. The speed of TranAir is impressive, taking only 1 or 2 seconds to send complete trip details to a driver and receive an acknowledgement back. Every transmission is confirmed in both directions, providing a high degree of reliability.

Drivers may accept or reject trip offers, load and complete trips, query zone activity, send and receive messages and a wide range of other functions in simple one-button key presses.

The Wireless Dispatch option for WinLimo makes WinLimo a complete end-to-end solution, providing all the benefits of WinLimo's Limousine management capabilities with complete wireless connectivity. Trip information is transferred seamlessly from WinLimo to the assigned vehicle and driver combination with a simple mouse click.

Benefits of TranAir

The benefits of using TranAir wireless dispatch include:

Reduces driver frustration in "chasing dispatch"
Reduces voice traffic by over 80%
Decreases dispatcher workload by a minimum of 40%
Reduces post administrative processing by over 50%
Increases driver and vehicle productivity
Reduces errors that can occur with written and verbal communications
Simplifies administration
Drivers are not tethered to the vehicle, therefore they can be dispatched and can update their job status even while away from or outside the vehicle
These devices are typically subsidized by the cellular companies, making the capital cost outlay substantially less than purchasing an MDT solution
Units are available that meet military specifications for shock and vibration for extended reliability, such as the Motorola i58 pictured below
Because public cellular networks are used, coverage is superior to traditional radio-based MDT systems
Small to medium taxi companies that do not have their own spectrum can still reap the benefits of computer aided digital dispatch
Portable units are easier to replace in the event of failure or theft and do not require installation
Obsolescence is not an issue. If the original product purchased is discontinued, it really doesn't matter because new improved products using the same global data standards will be available to replace it at a low cost
Wireless data substantially extends the coverage area for a taxi company over what they would have with a two-way radio system. Wireless data will automatically retry if the vehicle is in a poor coverage area, until it gets through
Drivers do not not have to stop and write down information, saving time
Drivers can update their status with a single button press, indicating whether they have "Accepted" the assignment, are "Loaded", or the trip is "Cleared"
Drivers can book into a specific zone, request their current status, query how many trips and vehicles are available in each soon, request a soon-to-clear, book busy for a flag, receive messages from dispatch, send canned messages to dispatch and a number of other high-level functions

Dispatchers and Call Takers can observe the status of jobs on a real-time basis. This improves customer service as customers can be given more accurate ETA's. Dispatchers are able to make more informed decisions about which vehicle and driver to assign a ticket to

How TranAir Operates

Driver Menu TranAir lays out driver functions in a very simple, logical manner, providing most of the functions you would see in an expensive MDT. In most cases, TranAir selects the appropriate function for the driver so that about 80% of the time, all that is needed is a single button-press.
Trip Offer TranWare Enterprise can be set to automatically assign each trip to the first available vehicle in the zone where the pickup is. If preferred, this can be left to the Dispatcher's discretion.  In either case, the driver's phone will ring and the job offer will be on the screen. By simply pressing the GO key, trip details will be seen. Pressing the Change key, then selecting Reject allows the driver to Reject the trip, but the driver will lose his zone position.
Trip Details TranAir shows full trip details to the driver once the trip has been accepted.  All pickup and drop-off details are shown, including passenger name, phone numbers, address details, landmark names, special instructions, etc. Some phones have larger displays than others -the one shown at right is the i730 flip phones which is a smaller display than some others.  In all cases, a driver would never have to scroll down more than 1 single click to see all trip details and in many cases, the entire trip will fit without scrolling.
Trip Update Notice how in the preceding screen, TranAir has already prepared the phone for the next logical driver progression be selecting the "Load" function. All the driver needs to do is press GO when the passenger gets into the vehicle.  Now, as you can see in the screen to the right, the trip is marked LOADED and is already presenting the driver with the COMPLETE function. Again, all the driver needs to do is press GO when the trip has been completed.
Book-in Screen After clearing the last trip, TranAir automatically takes the driver to the Book In screen.  By simply pressing the GO Button and then the zone number they wish to book into, TranAir books the driver into that zone. The TranWare Enterprise Dispatch system then confirms to the driver that he is booked into that zone, also advising the driver their current position in the zone queue. (You are 2nd in Zone 2)
Busy/Clear Should a driver become temporarily unavailable, such as if they were taking a break or picking up a flag, TranAir provides a Busy function that the driver can select. This will prevent the dispatcher or the automatic dispatch system from assigning any new trips to that driver until they mark themselves Clear.
Status Request At any time, a driver may query their current status to find out their current position in a zone or current trip status. The system will respond in only 1 or 2 seconds with their current status -for example, in this case, the system tells the driver they are available, but not booked into any zone. As a vehicle or driver sits at a stand, the driver can determine their queue position at any time.
Zone Query TranAir empowers your drivers -helping them maximize their earnings, while at the same time optimizing customer service -by keeping the drivers informed how many trips and vehicles are available in each city zone. Using this information, drivers may elect to change their location to provide service in an area where not enough vehicles are currently available. This feature alone saves tremendous dispatcher voice traffic.
Flag Trip TranAir goes one better than many MDT systems, not only informing dispatch when the driver is on a flag, but also updating dispatch with the destination zone. To begin a flag trip, the driver simply pushes selects Busy/Clear from the menu. TranAir then prompts the driver for his destination zone. After the driver enters his destination zone, his status is marked in the dispatch system as busy on a flag trip -indicating the zone he is heading to. TranAir can even automatically hold a pending trip in the destination zone for this driver.
Logon/Logoff TranAir keeps dispatch informed as to which vehicles are in service and which drivers are assigned to each vehicle. Only drivers that are logged into a vehicle can receive trip assignment.
